The Marrakech Marathon and Half Marathon take place in winter to take advantage of Morocco’s ideal weather during this period. With the race starting at 8:30 or 9:30 a.m. depending on the distance chosen, temperatures range from 6 to 12°C and gradually rise to over 20°C in the final kilometers.
Running in Marrakech is also an opportunity to immerse yourself in the local culture. With musicians performing at various points along the route and children delighted to see marathon runners passing through their neighborhood, offering smiles and high fives, soak up the unique atmosphere that will brighten up your race.
The start and finish lines are located on Avenue de MENARA. The course will take you along the city’s famous ramparts. But also past trees endemic to Morocco, including olive, date, and orange trees.
Please note that the maximum time allowed for the marathon is 5 hours and 30 minutes. This makes it accessible to marathon runners who are new to the discipline. The marathon organizers will provide refreshments every 5 km, including water and oranges. If you usually take certain energy bars or other energy products, feel free to bring them with you. In addition, each participant will receive a T-shirt and a medal.
Supporters can cheer on runners along the route. Some may enjoy cycling through this stunning environment at the edge of the Atlas Mountains, visible when the sky is clear.
After the race, you can enjoy all the wonders the city has to offer. Between the souk and the Medina with its merchants, its superb palm grove, and its ochre ramparts, Marrakech will hold no secrets for you.
